The Consequences of the US Health Reform Program

As was stated by the Republicans and the Democrats in the House the new health reform that has been put into place might become mired in red tapism and work out to be more expensive. Also, the proposed changes seem to be on either end of the yardstick. They are either too far off or they are too liberal.

The general public at large, almost 80% of the Americans themselves is quite satisfied and happy with the kind of healthcare that they are accustomed to getting. The thing that worries most of them is the growing cost of health care especially in these hard economic times.

Another thing they worry about is making health care mandatory and if it is constitutionally alright to fine someone who does not have adequate health insurance on them. The repercussions for this are how the government is going to get more money for the reforms.

They might have to make stringent cost cuts in the government run Medicare schemes. This will result in more and more good doctors leaving it for greener venues. This it will bring about a tumble in this noble scheme.

Also, Americans are used to buying adequate amounts of insurance for themselves and choosing the medical provider for themselves. They are worried about the new reforms bringing about a decline in the healthcare system and it going like in some other countries where people have to wait for weeks and sometimes even months on end to be able to get a doctor to look at them.

Also, the ability to buy insurance from an insurer only in your home state is bound to limit your options. There might be cheaper options elsewhere but because of the stipulation you might be forced to buy the more expensive option.

The way to have looked at it is the pharmaceutical companies and the profits that they are making. The same drugs, over the border in Canada, cost 50% less then what you would pay in the US. If the health care reform bill had looked into it then it would have been a far quicker and sure shot way of bringing down the costs of the medical care provided.

Most Americans have named this plan to be a Robin Hood plan wherein the rich and the privileged will pay more in terms of healthcare and it will be used for the have-nots of the society. This might not be a good thing in capitalist America wherein everyone is supposed to fend for themselves.

Those who are privileged and have done well for themselves argue that they had to work really hard for it. Also, they don’t mind contributing but not with the arm twisting forced tactics that might come into progress with the new health reform bill.

All in all this is what the general common American had to say. The repercussions might be far reaching on their lives.
